Forsa Oula to Combat Stunting
Combating stunting among children
The "First Chance" program by the Egyptian Food Bank targets pregnant and new mothers, as well as their children up to the age of two, to provide proper nutrition and prevent stunting along with its health, educational, and social consequences.
Stunting occurs during pregnancy and the first 1,000 days of a child’s life due to chronic malnutrition, leading to impaired mental and physical growth. This is caused by a lack of essential nutrients, poor maternal nutrition during pregnancy and breastfeeding, high blood pressure during pregnancy, and limited access to healthcare facilities.
This issue affects the entire family, increasing healthcare and financial burdens, making the child more prone to chronic diseases, and delaying cognitive development, which ultimately limits their educational opportunities and future job prospects.
